The Farola Fountain in the Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes , one of the city's most interesting architectural hybrids .
It is a work from 1929, the year of the Ibero-American Exhibition , and the author is J osé Lafita Díaz, son of the landscape painter José Lafita y Blanco. Commissioned in 1928 as part of the program for the renovation of public spaces, he was inspired by the design of the Triumph of the Virgen del Patrocinio and, for the landing, by Mañara's design for the Hospital de la Caridad.
Due to its popular location, the monument has been renovated several times, in particular the replacement of the pavement.
Curiously, this fountain-farola was initially an octagonal pedestrian shelter surrounded by a circular platform decorated with geometric designs, which has now disappeared.
We would like to say that our fountain is unique in the world, but when we travel to Kansas City (Missouri) we find an identical reproduction next to a smaller Giralda.
We also see a similar fountain in Zacatecas (Mexico) .
