This stately building, built in 1615 by the architect Diego Gómez and Fray Juan de Santa Maria, is a masterful exponent of the Baroque style.
It is the church of the former Monastery of the Mercedarians Barefoot . A Proto-Baroque side door, now closed, has a statue of the aforementioned patriarch in the attic. The front is decorated with blue tiles of the Portuguese type.
As soon as we enter, on the right we find the main altarpiece, a crucified Christ: the Christ of Forgiveness and Mercy , carved in 1983 by Luis Álvarez Duarte.
The interior of the church is in the shape of a Latin cross, with one central nave and the main altarpiece shows a statue of Saint Joseph in the center, holding the Child Jesus in his arms. There is also a painting (among others) of Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, founder of the Opus Dei Prelature.
