The Museum of Folk Art and Customs of Seville, founded in 1972 , is a museum dedicated to the ethnological heritage of Andalusia, both tangible and intangible. The halls display objects and utensils that document the customs, knowledge and ways of life typical of the traditional culture of the area.
It is housed in the Mudéjar Pavilion , a building designed by the architect Aníbal González for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. Its location in the Pavilion was due to the transfer of the use of this building, first partially and later completely, to the state by the city council of Seville.
The most important collections are those of ceramics, clothing and Andalusian crafts . Other highlights include the Aguiar collection of costumbrista painting, the Soria collection of pottery and oriental ivories, the ceramics collection of the Gestoso collection and, above all, the Díaz Velázquez collection of lace and embroidery, one of the most important in Europe and which could form an independent monographic museum in itself, with its almost 6,000 pieces.
In addition, the municipal council of Seville has housed its collection of original posters of Seville's spring festivals in the museum. One of the additions of the last ten years is the purchase of the Loty collection, consisting of more than 2000 antique glass plates with details of Andalusian towns and life from the early 20th century to 1936, two collections of toys and one of more than 7000 postcards.
