It is named after Manuel Prudencio de Molviedro . architect who, commissioned by the assistant of Seville, Marquis of Montereal, transformed the old Mancebía into the area of the lagoon in the 18th century .
Since the Middle Ages it has been called Plaza de la Laguna de la Mancebía. In 1848 it was called Plaza de Molviedro and it is still called that today.
Today (2024) Plaza de Molviedro is a residential area without residents, a hotel will own the buildings.
