Lleva el nombre de Manuel Prudencio de Molviedro . Arquitecto que, por encargo del ayudante de Sevilla, el marqués de Montreal, transformó en el siglo XVIII la antigua Mancebía en la zona de la laguna.
Desde la Edad Media se llama Plaza de la Laguna de la Mancebía. En 1848 se llamaba Plaza de Molviedro y así se llama hoy en día.
Hoy (2024), la Plaza de Molviedro es una zona residencial sin residentes, un hotel será propietario de los edificios.
