This monument is dedicated to Miguel Mañara, the renovator of the Brotherhood of Santa Caridad in the 17th century.
The statue is located in the Gardens of Love , right in front of the hospital that Mañara renovated over three centuries ago, giving it its current appearance.
The monument consists of a stone plinth supporting a formidable bronze statue, a posthumous work by Antonio Susillo (1857-1896). The piece is a replica of the one that adorns, this time in stone, the north facade of the San Telmo Palace , where Susillo intervened and created a gallery of illustrious Sevillians, including Mañara.
As noted on the monument's plaque, it was installed in 1902 , five years after Susillo's death. The sculpture of Mañara is therefore one of the last works of the sculptor and in it you can see several features of his production, such as the placement of a foot outside the base to give more movement and realism to the figures, the memory and expressiveness from the face of the main figure (that of the patient carried in his arms is almost impossible to see from the ground) or the extraordinary quality of the clothing, of great naturalism.
