Jalón is a good base for many climbs in the Costa Blanca region at a relatively short distance.
This route starts from Jalón and goes counterclockwise. There are 3 cols on the route:
- Coll de la Garga (or Puerto de Penyó) from the north side (with a very irregular start between Murla and Fleix, and 2 steep last kilometers). Pay attention on the descent: a road with many hairpin bends, narrow and sometimes steep, sometimes stones on the road, some speed bumps and at the bottom a piece of concrete surface full of potholes.
- Collado de Bixauca (from Castell de Castells, which also contains 14% of the piece),
- and Coll de Rates from Tarbena, not only to the colbord on the main road, but also with the final section to the antennas on a concrete road (on average 10% in 3 km), the concrete road only begins after having taken a stretch of unpaved road 200 meters long.
If you decide to literally ignore the concrete path to the antennas at Coll de Rates, the trip will be 6 km shorter and 300 altimeters will be cancelled.
After the Coll de Rates you descend to the Parcent, and after Parcent you take secondary roads through almond, olive and orange trees to reach Jalón again.
