A24 10 Tarazona - El Burgo de Osma

The tenth stage covers 153 km with 1600 Hm. Due to the distance and the elevation gain, it is a tough ride through the sparsely populated Spanish interior. We mainly ride westward on mostly rural and quiet roads.

We start at the lowest point of the day (Lp 485) and climb in steps to a plateau. After 13 km, we leave the region Aragón and enter Castile and León , a large region in central Spain.

After 42 km, we reach the highest point of the day on this plateau: Hp 1199 m. Here is the watershed line between the basin of the Ebro, which flows to the Mediterranean Sea, and the basin of the Douro, which flows through Portugal to the Atlantic Ocean.

We stay on the winding roads of this plateau throughout the ride. We occasionally pass a small village, but very few towns. In Almazán, after 101 km, we ride over the upper reaches of the Douro. Here the river has not yet cut into the plateau, you hardly feel that it slopes down to the river and back up after the bridge. After 132 km, we again ride over the Douro.

We follow the meandering Douro at a distance via the CL-116 on this plateau, rich in streams, until we reach our stage location El Burgo de Osma.

El Burgo de Osma is a municipality in the Spanish province of Soria in the region Castile and León, with approximately 5,000 inhabitants.
