Health in El Raval: a history of more than 500 years (Barcelona)

El Raval has been, since almost the beginning of Barcelona's history, a space destined to host charitable and health institutions. From the establishment within its perimeter of the Hospital of Santa Cruz, the different institutions that have been installed there have been giving character to the neighborhood until well into the twentieth century, when the new hygienist currents postulated the convenience of moving health and charitable services to the outer areas of the city. "Health in the Raval: a history of more than 500 years" will follow the traces of a long health history in the neighborhood through its buildings -starting in the twelfth century in the old Hospital of San Lázaro and ending in the twentieth century in an anti-tuberculosis dispensary- and its protagonists: lepers, poor, orphans, prostitutes, prayed, epileptic, handicapped, abnormal, tubercular, helpless...
