GR-171.3. Stage 01. Fork C-43-Road Barranco de la Fonteta

The GR-171.3 route, known as Stage 01, begins at the fork of the C-43 road and delves into the Barranco de la Fonteta, in the heart of the Ebro Valley. With a length of 10.3 kilometers and a height difference of 140 meters, this route presents a medium level of difficulty, making it an accessible option for hikers with some experience. Throughout the journey, walkers will have the opportunity to enjoy a landscape characteristic of the region, where cultivated fields intertwine with the mountains surrounding the valley. The native vegetation and local wildlife add a special charm to this outdoor experience. One of the highlights of this stage is the Gandesa Cooperative Winery, a modernist building designed by architect Cèsar Martinell i Brunet. This winery, located in Gandesa, Tarragona, is a notable example of early 20th-century architecture and is recognized for its contribution to the region's viticulture. Visitors can explore its history and, if given the chance, taste some of the wines produced in this emblematic winery. Additionally, the route is near the Siege of Gandesa, a historical event that took place during the Spanish Civil War.
