GR-261. Stage 05. Ballobar-Chalamera

Stage 05 of the GR-261, which connects Ballobar with Chalamera, offers a challenging hiking experience along 22.8 kilometers in the heart of the Ebro Valley. This route, of high difficulty, has a total elevation gain of 349 meters, making it an ideal option for those seeking a challenge in a natural environment. The journey begins in Ballobar, a municipality with a rich agricultural and landscape heritage. As you progress, the trail takes you through cultivated fields and areas of indigenous vegetation, where you can observe the typical flora and fauna of the region. The proximity of the Alcanadre River adds an element of serenity to the landscape, while the mountains of the Ontiñena range rise majestically to your right. One of the points of interest in this stage is the municipality of Ontiñena, located at the foot of the mountain range that bears its name. This small village, part of the Bajo Cinca comarca in the province of Huesca, offers a glimpse into Aragonese rural life, with its traditions and local architecture. Continuing towards Chalamera, the trail brings you closer to the Ermita de Santa María, a prominent example of Romanesque architecture in the area.
