The Fifth Lake - Stage 1: The Sleeping Giant

This is stage 1 of "El Cinque Llac", called "The Sleeping Giant". We depart from La Pobla de Segur and take a short stretch of the N-260. Through the Vallcarca stream area (1 km), we walk along the old Montsor path on a meandering ascent over old, hardened paths. The view is breathtaking: to the north we see Montsor and the rocks with soaring birds of prey; to the south we see the Sant Antoni reservoir and the elongated mountain range of El Montsec, with the two gateways to the Pallars region: the Terradets and the Mont-rebei gorge. Upon reaching the Montsor hill, there are two options: follow the trail to the village of Montsor. More intrepid hikers can venture further to the peak known as L'Àliga (The Eagle) and enjoy a stunning view there. Afterwards, we begin the descent towards the Pla de Corts plain with the Sleeping Giant in the background. The arrival is in Peramea, an important medieval walled village.
