The village of Plan is located in the amazing Valle de Gistau, here the hike begins and ends. The route passes the fantastically beautiful mountain lake, Ibon de Plan, and then continues to the moonlike landscape around the Peña de la Una. The hike is long and strenuous, with 1500 meters of elevation to overcome. Bring enough water because there is absolutely nothing to be found along the way. In high summer, it is advisable to start very early, as there is hardly any shade past Ibon de Plan and it can get particularly hot. Descending during the hottest hours of the day is more pleasant than climbing.
