Eleventh ride to the Algarve, from Arevalo to Jerte: 155 km and 1720 meters of elevation, a fairly mountainous ride. After a very gradual climb through a beautiful and rustic area, you reach the highest point of the day at 68 km: 1499 m. After a nice descent, there are three more steep climbs, and at the end, there is a long descent to Jerte. You ride from the region of Castile and León to the region of Extremadura.
Just before the descent at the end, you have a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the Jerte valley and the 'Garganta de los Infiernos' (the throat of hell). This is a gorge of the river Jerte. In this nature reserve, there are numerous waterfalls and rapids as well as the gigantic pools known in the area as Los Pilones. You can find natural baths in the upper part of the gorge.
Jerte is a small municipality in the Spanish province of Cáceres in the region of Extremadura. Jerte has 1,269 inhabitants.
