Sochaux

It all started in the 18th century with a certain Jean-Jacques Peugeot, who bequeathed to his children the grain mill he owned. Jean-Pierre and Jean-Fréderic transformed the Hérimoncourt mill into a foundry. Then things evolved, and in the 19th century, the Peugeot factory moved to Beaulieu. In 1889, the first steam tricycle left the workshops of Valentigney, and in 1890, the "Type 3" became the first car produced in series. At the beginning of the 20th century, specifically in 1912, the factories of Sochaux, in the Pays de Montbéliard, were commissioned. Today, these factories - which bear the name PSA Peugeot Citroën - employ 22,000 people and nearly 2,000 cars roll off their production lines each day. The Peugeot museum, officially the Musée de l'Aventure Peugeot Sochaux, narrates the history of the Peugeot saga, which ranges from coffee and pepper mills to bicycles, motorcycles, and finally, the latest car models and concept cars. Covering an area of 4,000 square meters, eight modules arranged in chronological order showcase about two hundred car models. Bicycles and motorcycles are displayed in a reconstituted marketplace, complete with a Peugeot bicycle shop from the 1940s. For example, there is the 515 motorcycle that Antoine Peugeot presented to the press in 1933.
