Sochaux

Description

It all begins in the eighteenth century with a certain Jean-Jacques Peugeot who owns a grain mill and bequeaths that mill to his children. Jean-Pierre II and Jean-Frédéric transform the mill in Hérimoncourt into a foundry. And one thing quickly leads to another. The Peugeot factory moves to Beaulieu in the nineteenth century. In 1889, the first steam tricycle leaves the workshops of Valentigney, and in 1890, the Type 3, the first mass-produced car, is introduced. At the beginning of the twentieth century, in 1912 to be precise, the factories in Sochaux in the Pays de Montbéliard are put into operation. Today, the factories - now called PSA Peugeot Citroën - employ 22,000 people and nearly 2,000 cars roll off the assembly line daily. The Peugeot Museum, officially Musée de l'Aventure Peugeot Sochaux, tells the story of the successful Peugeot saga - ranging from coffee and pepper mills to bicycles and motorcycles to the latest car models and concept cars. On an area of 4,000 m², eight chronologically arranged modules display around two hundred car models. Bicycles and motorcycles are presented in a reconstructed market square featuring a shop of Peugeot bicycles from the 1940s. Also present is the 515 motorcycle that Antoine Peugeot introduced to the press in 1933.
