This old abbey, a historic monument in the Upper Scheldt Valley, is an important Cistercian abbey from the 12th century. It was founded in 1132 by St. Bernard and hosts a whole series of cultural and artistic events. The chapter house is the largest in Europe. A path has been laid out around the abbey that leads from sacred spaces to worldly spaces. You walk through the heart of the church where lavender grows abundantly, find peace in a Zen-inspired garden. Additionally, there is a vegetable garden, orchard, rose garden, and a square with perennials. It has been under restoration for more than 26 years with the support of the association "The Friends of the Abbey of Vaucelles."
