From a distance you can see that the Puy de Dôme has a dome shape. This mountain can be seen from more than 100 km away in the Auvergne. At 1464 m it rises above all other volcanoes in the region. The mountain was formed by an underground lava dome: one of the youngest and highest in the Massif Central.
