Villes-sur-Auzon is a village of about 1,000 inhabitants, at the foot of Mont Ventoux and the Monts de Vaucluse. In the past, the village was completely walled, but the ramparts have had to make way for houses. That explains the round shape of the village. Of the ramparts remains a gateway from the 18th century, le Grand Portail, and in some places remains of old walls.
Outside the old village center is the "Pous de Foro" to the north-west, a neighborhood with small gardens surrounded by stone walls, which used to be rebuilt by the villagers. The church and the town hall are also outside the old walls.
The village is surrounded by vineyards. To the west lies a forest of conifers and chestnut trees in a landscape of warm ochre colors. To the east are the mountains intersected by ravines such as the Combe de l'Hermitage and the spectacular Gorges de la Nesque.
