The Guinette tower is in fact the keep of an old royal castle that has disappeared today. It dominates the town of d' +tampes, in Essonne. The keep is situated on the plateau of Guinette, which mainly consists of a residential area. The tower was built in the 12th century, between the years 1130 and 1150. It served as a prison for Queen Ingeburge. It is a quadrilobed keep, with a height of 27 meters and built of natural stone. The Guinette tower was mentioned in the book "The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry." The building was destroyed under the order of Cardinal Richelieu.
