Chateaubriant developed because the Château de Chateaubriant has been the residence of the Dukes of Brittany. Anne of Brittany was born there! The now somewhat dilapidated castle has been designated as a UNESCO heritage site and is therefore partially scaffolded. Chateaubriant is world-renowned because the chef of the French envoy in London around 1750 named the recipe he developed for beef fillet after his employer, the politician and writer François René de Chateaubriand! (not t but d).
