The community of Schirrhoffen is known for its historical Jewish community. In the 14th century, Schirrhoffen had one of the biggest Jewish communities of Bas-Rhin. The Jews were in the majority in this village. In 1841, 71 % of the population of Schirrhoffen was Jewish. But in 1871 a huge migration took place (to stay in France) and only 37 Jews were still in Schirrhoffen in 1936. 75% died in the Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Only 2 Jews came back to Schirrhoffen after the war. The only relicts of this rich Jewish history in this place vcan be found in the Jewish school and in the graveyard.
