Orvault is a municipality in the west of France, located in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region; it is part of the Nantes area in historical Brittany.
A rural municipality until the 1950s, it then experienced, under the influence of Nantes with which it shares a border, a demographic explosion until the late 1970s. Its population has stabilized since then. Despite land pressure, agriculture remains vibrant in the municipality at the beginning of the 21st century.
