Commissioned by Napoleon I to celebrate the triumph of his armies at the Battle of Austerlitz, the largest arch in the world was erected between 1806 and 1836. Since 1921, it has housed the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose flame of remembrance is rekindled every evening. The panoramic view of the capital from its roof terrace is breathtaking.
