The Arc de Triomphe in Paris is one of the most famous monuments in the French capital and is probably the most celebrated triumphal arch in the world. Built between 1806 and 1836 by order of Napoleon Bonaparte to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, it is located in the VIII District of Paris, over the Charles de Gaulle square ―formerly known as the Place de l’Étoile―, at the western end of the Champs-Élysées avenue, 2.2 km from the Place de la Concorde, located at the eastern end of that avenue. It has a height of 50 m, a width of 45 m, and a depth of 22 m. The large archway measures 29.19 m high by 14.62 m wide, while the small archway measures 18.68 m high by 8.44 m wide. It is managed by the National Monuments Center.
