The name 'Sault' is derived from the Latin 'Saltus', which means 'land of forests'. Excavations have shown that modern-day Sault has its origins in prehistoric times. To the northeast of Sault, in the Bois du Défens, objects from prehistoric times have been excavated in the vicinity of a cave. To the west of the village, on the banks of the river, remains have been found dating back to the time of the Roman Empire.
The village overlooks 'Val de Sault', a beautiful valley with large lavender fields. Today, tourism plays an important role in the village, as evidenced by the presence of several cafes, restaurants, and shops selling local and regional products. As in Bédoin, you will undoubtedly encounter cyclists in Sault. Indeed, Sault is, just like Bédoin, one of the three 'official' starting points for climbing the nearby Mont Ventoux.
