The Méridienne Verte is a project by architect Paul Chemetov for the year 2000 ceremonies in France. It aimed to materialize the Paris meridian that crosses France from North to South (from Dunkirk, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, to Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste, Pyrénées-Orientales) by planting trees along its path. On July 14, 2000, National Day, a picnic was organized along this Méridienne Verte. On this occasion, it was also materialized in the Paris sky using two lasers, one placed at the Observatory, whose center defines the longitude of the meridian, and the other at the nearby Senate, which also lies along the imaginary line. With a diameter of 4 m and a range of 1.3 km, their beams in the colors of the Méridienne illuminated the 6th and 14th arrondissements for three consecutive nights, from July 13 to 15.
