The mountain massif of the Vaucluse consists of - often water-permeable - limestone. The water penetrates deep into the rock bottom and washes out underground rivers that come to the surface tens of kilometers further at lower points, such as in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, or at the source of the Nesque.
Some rock walls in the gorge are more than 200 meters high, such as the Roque de Cire.
Now that we are in the gorge, this quiet road is at most falsely flat. By the way, we drive sheltered from the north wind. The valley of the Nesque is still quite wide and especially very green.
