Source of the Sorgue

The water of the Sorgue is clear and, due to the numerous aquatic plants and waterfalls, it is constantly colored differently, often in bright green tones. Fontaine de Vaucluse gave its name to the department. It also inspired the poets Frédéric Mistral and Francisco Petrarca. The waters of the Sorgue have also played a crucial role in the economic development of the region. Watermills produced power and, from the 15th century onwards, paper mills settled along the banks. The paper industry thrived until the mid-20th century. Since then, the region has had to rely mainly on tourism. We continue along the shore. The road is passable up to the spring for those who are handy on a bike. Please note that the last part is steeper and it is a gravel road.
