Het water van de Sorgue is kristalhelder en door de vele waterplanten en de watervalletjes is het constant anders gekleurd, vaak in en felgroene tinten.
Fontaine de Vaucluse gaf zijn naam aan het departement. Het inspireerde ook de dichters Frédéric Mistral en Fancisco Pétrarca.
Het water van de Sorgue heeft ook een cruciale rol gespeeld in de economische ontwikkeling van de streek. Watermolens produceerden drijfkracht en vanaf de 15de eeuw werden papierfabriekjes opgericht langs de oevers. De papierindustrie bloeid tot het midden van de 20ste eeuw. Sindsdien moet de streek het vooral hebben van de toeristen.
We rijden verder langs de oever. Het weggetje is helemaal tot aan de bron berijdbaar voor wie handig is met de fiets. Let wel het laatste stuk is steiler en het is een grintweg.
