Inspired by the Trajan column in Rome, the Vendome column rises to 44 meters in the center of one of the most luxurious squares in the world. The monument was erected in 1810, at the request of Napoleon I, to pay tribute to the Grande Armée, victorious in the battle of Austerlitz. Cast in bronze from 1,200 cannons taken from the Russian and Austrian armies, and decorated in the antique style, the Vendôme column is one of the most emblematic historical buildings in the capital.
