Located in the historic district of the city, the Hospice Comtesse remains one of the last testimonies of the actions of the Counts of Flanders. Founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne of Flanders within the walls of her own palace, the Hôtel de la Salle, the hospital is placed under the protection of the Virgin. The ground floor of the community building seeks to recreate the intimacy of a Flemish house (interior decor, 17th-century furniture, tableware, still lifes, etc.) while also reminding visitors of its spiritual and hospitable vocation (vanities, pharmacy, chapel).
