Hikers in search of fresh air, tribes out for a stroll, or lovers of greenery... Take a nature break in the Retz forest.
This exceptional forest, formerly the royal hunting grounds of François 1er, owes its great renown to the beauty of its age-old forests. Renowned as early as the 16th century as "the most beautiful and renowned in France", it was magnified by 19th-century poets and writers.
In "Le Pays Natal", Dumas Père writes: "Instead of having me born in one of these stone quarries inhabited by an anthill of men? Dieu m?a choisi, un nid dans la verdure et la mousse sous les hauts et frais ombrages de la plus belle forêt de France."
