Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo are buried in the cemetery of Auvers-sur-Oise. On July 27, 1890, at the age of 37, Van Gogh wounded himself in the chest with a pistol. He wanted to shoot himself through the heart, but made a classic mistake by thinking that the heart is at the level of the left nipple. He missed because of this and died of internal bleeding on July 29 with Theo at his side. Six months later, Theo also died. He left behind a son, Vincent Willem, the grandfather of the famous filmmaker and columnist Theo van Gogh who would be murdered in Amsterdam in 2004 and who would also die from the bullet, just like his famous relative.
