It is an area that encompasses 141 ha of lowland for the dunes and additionally 250 ha of shallow waters off the coast. It extends from the mouth of the Aa in a western direction, interrupted by a settlement of holiday cottages.
The variation of habitats has led to the discovery of 361 plant species, of which 86 are of exceptional importance to this area, such as: stilted saltmarsh, dune violet, dogbane, true spoonleaf, blue sea thistle, and blue broomrape.
