Briod lies at an elevation of 540 m, about six kilometers east of the town of Lons-le-Saunier. The village extends in the Jura, in the south of the Lédonien Plateau, between the erosion valley of Creux de Conliège in the west and the heights of Côte de l’Heute in the east.
The area of the 4.04 km² municipality encompasses a section of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the plain of the Lédonien Plateau, which is on average at 530 m and is partly composed of arable land and meadows, and partly of forest. The plateau has no surface watercourses because the rainfall water seeps into the karst subsoil. To the north, the municipal area extends into the extensive forest area of Bois de Perrigny, where the highest point of Briod, at 555 m, is reached. The western boundary runs partially along the upper edge of the steep slope to Creux de Conliège.
