The Abbey of Silvacane is one of the three Cistercian abbeys in Provence, along with its "sisters" Le Thoronet and Sénanque. Founded in 1144 in a marshy place by the Durance, 'silva cana': woods of reeds. The church, the cloister, and several residential rooms, predominantly Romanesque in style, have already been restored and are definitely worth a visit.
