At 977 m above sea level, it is both the highest point of the Millevaches plateau and of the Corrèze department. Dominating to the north the town of Meymac, located some 250 meters below, Mont Bessou belongs to the Millevaches regional natural park in Limousin and is part of the southern region of the Millevaches plateau.
