The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Verdelais is a Catholic basilica from the 17th century located in the heart of Verdelais, a small commune in the Gironde. A chapel built in the 11th century to house a statue of the Virgin Mary brought back from the Holy Land became a place of Marian pilgrimage and was rebuilt several times. Still a popular pilgrimage site for Catholics in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the church was elevated to the status of minor basilica on July 31, 1924. It has been listed as a historic monument since March 31, 2000.
