Mont Saint-Quentin

Description

Mont Saint-Quentin, just a stone's throw from the town of Péronne, rises to an altitude of only 100 meters. Between August 29 and September 2, 1918, a few hundred men of the Second Australian Division managed to break through the German lines on Mont Saint-Quentin, thereby liberating the town of Péronne. Mont Saint-Quentin was definitively captured on September 2. This capture was already hailed at the time as one of the great Australian victories of the war. The Monument to the Second Australian Division is now adorned with a statue of an Australian "digger" in uniform. A pedestrian, interpretative and memorial route is possible from the Historial of the Great War in Péronne.
