Built at the junction of Roman roads from Le Mans to Angers, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Virtues is the first church built in Gallo-Roman times. Earlier it bore the name of Saint-Ouen, then in the 14th century, that of Saint Bartholomew.
By the middle of the 17th century, the Jesuits of La Flèche obtained permission to restore the chapel with a view to a place of pilgrimage and student boarding school. Work began in 1644 and ended in 1674. During this work, a beautiful paneling was applied to the ceiling. The choir was decorated with an altar with marble pilasters.
The chapel became a place of pilgrimage, but during the French Revolution it was sold as a civil property, but later it was reopened for worship.
Today, the chapel is open to the public all day. Pilgrims still make use of this opportunity every day.
