The Gorze castle is located in the municipality of Germolles-sur-Grosne in Saône-et-Loire, on a hillside. The original castle included, to the east, on a basement level extended at the corners by terraced slopes, a long body of living quarters formed of a central pavilion, two wings, and at the ends of these, two pavilions. While the entire construction was made of pink and gray granite, the frames of the windows and the corbels of the eaves supporting the roofs, above a series of slits, were made of oak wood. This would have required the cutting down of a forest. Only the corner pavilions have remained intact, the entire central part having been reduced to just the ground floor, as well as the outbuildings, which, to the west, surrounded the courtyard that one still enters, to the south, through a rounded archway topped by a coat of arms of the Berthet family with the date of 1707 and the motto "He who rubs against it, gets pricked."
