The Morteau Watchmaking Museum, located in the Pertusier Castle in Morteau in the Haut-Doubs, traces the history of watchmaking in Franche-Comté since the 18th century.
The Morteau Watchmaking Museum was established in 1985 under the initiative of Constant Vaufrey. A former watchmaker and deputy mayor, Mr. Vaufrey wanted to preserve the watchmaking heritage of Franche-Comté and to introduce tourists to the watchmaking history of Morteau. The Val de Morteau owes its prosperity to watchmaking, French from 1750 to 1990, and now Swiss.
