Located near the village of Wangenbourg, the Freudeneck castle is built at the end of a ridge of the Schlossberg at 390m altitude and dominates the Mossig river.
The ruins give an idea of what the Freudeneck Castle was once, a watchtower to alert the neighbouring Wangenbourg Castle.
The architectural remains are few; the round keep in the centre of the fortress, made of rusticated stones, the farmyard, the ruins of the fortifications remain... The fortified gate, probably preceded by a drawbridge, has disappeared.
From Wangenbourg Castle, a marked trail through the forest leads to the ruins after a short walk. A road allows visitors by vehicle to get as close as possible to the site, and then to reach the ruin via a path in 5 minutes on foot.
Access to the castle is free all year round.
