It was built in 1846, then enlarged in 1876. In 1895, it was equipped with a Wetzel mechanical organ. Decorated with a series of remarkable frescoes by the artist Achille Metzger in 1922, it is the only synagogue in Alsace not to have been desecrated by the Nazis.
