The belfry of Thionville is a building of the French town of Thionville, in the department of Moselle.
The charter of franchise granted by the Counts of Luxembourg to the bourgeois of Thionville in 1239 allows them to build an enclosure with a watchtower where there is a watchman. In the 14th century, construction of a first belfry, symbol of communal freedoms. It is then a set of a tower and an annex building, on the street of the former City Hall, housing among others a courtroom and a hospital for the poor. The tower housed the big bell of the city. The current tower, housing three vaulted vaulted ceilings, is rebuilt in the first half of the 16th century, at the time when Charles Quint ordered major fortification works.
