Inspired by the Septimius Severus Arch in Rome, the triumphal arch glorifies the French king Louis XV, whose portrait appears on a medallion at the top of the building. Now known as the Arc Héré, its name recalls Stanislas's architect, who designed this monument to link Place Royale (now Place Stanislas) and Place de la Carrière.
