Inspiré de celui de Septime Sévère de Rome, l'arc de triomphe glorifie le roi de France Louis XV représenté en portrait sur un médaillon au sommet de l'édifice. Appelé aujourd'hui Arc Héré, son nom rappelle l'architecte de Stanislas à qui l'on doit ce monument qui devait faire le lien entre la place Royale (actuelle place Stanislas) et la place de la carrière.
