A plunge into history!
Strasbourg?s Municipal Baths, a jewel of the city?s heritage and a listed historic monument, were designed by municipal architect Fritz Beblo at the dawn of the 20th century.
Completed in 1908, the building was resolutely innovative in its functions, the ultimate expression of the hygienic policy of the time. But it was also the artistic achievement that set it apart. The team led by municipal architect Fritz Beblo designed the entire baths, right down to the door handles. Each piece is unique, sometimes with a purely decorative interest. Obsession with light, refined materials (marble, English ceramics, etc.), references to Antiquity, Baroque, Renaissance and Art Nouveau influences.... For Fritz Beblo, the Bains are a total work of art.
Right from the outset, the Bains municipaux were a meeting place for people from all walks of life. Bourgeois wellness practices coexisted with those of the working classes, with public baths and showers in the basement for those who didn't have them at home. Les Bains was one of the first municipal buildings to be open to the public, and a place where people of all origins could meet.
The Baths have recently undergone an ambitious renovation that respects their heritage and history.
The Grand Bassin and Petit Bassin have been magnificently restored, and are now open to all for swimming at the same rates as the other pools in the Strasbourg Eurometropole.
To prolong the experience, why not take advantage of the other areas: well-being (with outdoor Nordic pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam...), treatments, fitness...
For moments of total relaxation in the heart of the historic center!
The Bains Municipaux also offer public showers and new activities such as themed cooking workshops.
