Its history is closely linked to that of this emblematic memorial site of the battle of Verdun. Built a few meters from the farm of Thiaumont which was destroyed during the hard fighting of 1916, this building served as a shelter for the workers who built the Ossuary of Douaumont inaugurated in 1932.
Little by little, the Pilgrims' Shelter was transformed into a bar where families came to warm up in search of their loved ones who died or disappeared during the war.
By entrusting the management of this place to the ADAPEI of the Meuse, the Douaumont Ossuary Foundation wished to renew the solidarity vocation of this brewery.
This militant family association from the Meuse accompanies people with intellectual and/or psychological disabilities.
Thanks to this new activity, it allows young people and adults to work on a tourist site in contact with the public. An inclusion in a regular environment and a rise in skills that allows them to access more autonomy, self-confidence for a full citizenship
A room is available for pilgrims who wish to eat their packed lunch, sit down and warm up.
